Day Two: Say Yes To Forgiveness

“As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” Colossians 3:13
In life, we face many situations where we choose to forgive or live in unforgiveness. Experiences, even from childhood, can keep us trapped in negativity, a victim mindset, resentment, bitterness and bondage our entire lives if we choose to hold onto them.
Though forgiveness is not easy, Jesus showed us it could be done. He was innocent, yet falsely accused. He was mocked, spit on, and beaten. As He hung on the cross, He lifted His voice and did what God desires us all to do; He forgave. He cried out, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34). They did not deserve His forgiveness, but His will was surrendered. To say “yes” to forgiveness is not saying you condone someone’s actions or think they had the right to hurt you. Instead, saying yes to forgiveness is simply saying yes to obedience to God.
“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outbursts, and blasphemies, with all malice, be taken away from you. And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.” (Eph. 4:31-32)
Unforgiveness keeps you shackled to the moment that caused it, but forgiveness is the pathway out of your pain and moving forward. It severs the power it has had over your life and sets you free!
Today, acknowledge the wrong done to you and then release it. With a faith-filled heart, choose to forgive the person who offended or hurt you. Move away from being a victim and remove the power and control it has had in your life. Ask the Lord to help you move forward in the freedom of forgiveness this new year. 2023 is your year to live free, healed and whole!
DECLARATION/PRAYER: “Lord, I come to you in Jesus’ Name. Thank You for Your forgiveness, time and time again, in my life. As You have forgiven me, I want to have a heart to forgive others. I pray for those who have hurt me, asking Your will be done in their lives. I forgive and release them from every wrong they have done to me and place them in Your hands. I pray they will turn to You and be healed. Today, I say “yes” to forgiveness and thank you for the healing, freedom and peace that is now released over my life and future. Please help me keep my focus on you and others. Fill me with your love, strength and power! In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.”
